THINKING OF MAJORING IN SCIENCE OR THE HEALTH PROFESSIONS? CONSIDER THIS:

MATH

Math is an essential element for the study of all sciences. Most majors will require calculus and many will require much more. It is important to take the BC math assessment and get an early start on math classes to satisfy prerequisites.

CHEMISTRY

Chemistry is essential to the study of the life sciences as well as the physical sciences. Many pre-professional programs and life science majors require both general and organic chemistry.

PHYSICS

Physics is required by many of the professional science majors, including engineering, computer science, dentistry, medicine, physical and occupational therapy, and veterinary medicine.

BIOLOGY

Biology is essential to professional programs in the health fields such as medicine, pharmacy, nursing, dentistry, nutrition, speech and hearing sciences, veterinary medicine, physical therapy and occupational therapy, as well as environmental studies, botany, oceanography, fisheries and forestry.

If you haven’t had previous chemistry, biology or physics courses in high school or if you need a refresher, Biology 101, Chemistry 101 and Physics 106 will prepare you for advanced courses at BC.
