BCC Pre-BSN Nursing Advising
Information for Pre-BSN Nursing Students

 This information sheet is for transfer students and is not for the BCC Associate Degree in Nursing program. Several universities in the state offer the Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Admission to nursing programs is very competitive, students should prepare for application to more than one nursing school. Health care related work or volunteer experience is essential.

College coursework required by most BSN nursing programs
Two quarters of chemistry with labs: BCC CHEM& 121,131 (Previously CHEM 101,102)
One quarter of nutrition: BCC NUTR 130 (previously BIOL 130 or HOMEC 130)
Two quarters of anatomy and physiology: BCC BIOL& 241,242 (Previously BIOL 260,261)
One quarter of microbiology: BCC BIOL& 260 (Previously BIOL 250)
One quarter of developmental psychology: BCC PSYC& 200 (Previously PSYCH 204)
One quarter of college level math: BCC MATH& 141 or 138 (Previously MATH 105 or 156)
One quarter of statistics: BCC MATH 130


English/Humanities: Beyond the required science courses, a broad liberal arts background is encouraged. Ten quarter credits of English composition are required. Students should check with the individual schools to which they plan to apply to verify which specific classes are required.

The above sample schedule provides 96 credits and does not include any prerequisite math or English classes needed to bring your skills to college level. Assessment is required prior to enrolling in math or English courses. Your schedule may vary significantly from this depending upon your previous coursework and assessment scores. Summer classes may be necessary.

GPA
The average GPA for entering nursing school students at the University of Washington is approximately 3.5. Students should strive to maintain a strong GPA with limited withdrawals, incompletes, repeated courses and non-graded options.
