August 11 - 15, 2003 Wednesday Better Fun (and Living) through Chemistry
Chemists Brett Goldston and Mina Heydari brought science camp to a scintillating summit midweek with a smorgasbord of color, fire and ice, and "lets get our hands dirty" slime and glue. The burning of elements offered the campers a sparkly and colorful intro to the science of fireworks while smashing racquetballs and liquid nitrogen ice cream (Bodacious Chemical Crunch) froze everyone in their tracks. Burning tongues of airborne methane and alchemy that changed copper into silver and gold left the students thinking about careers in chemistry. Thanks again to volunteers Tiffany, Liz, and David and BCC lab technicians extraordinaire Chris Johnson, Stacey Gregersen and Hung Vu.
