What is the CSRSEF?

The CSRSEF is a traditional science fair for high school students.  Students will work individually or in teams of two to conduct independent research in one of 18 science, math, and engineering categories.

Who can participate?

For the 2011 fair, 9th-12th grade students from public, home schools, and private schools in King and Snohomish counties are invited to participate. There is no registration fee.  Registration for the 2011 fair will open in January 2011, however, students are encouraged to plan their projects and submit the required forms before registering!

When and Where?

The 2011 CSRSEF will take place on Saturday, March 12,2011 in the Bellevue College (formerly Bellevue Community College) cafeteria.  For directions/maps, visit the college's website.

How do I participate?

1) Read the 2011 CSRSEF Official Guide and choose a Project Category.

2) Plan out your research, and write out a short (less than 250 words) description of your project.  You'll need this to register.

3) Complete the online registration form (available January, 2011), or print the registration form and mail it postmarked by Wednesday, March 2, 2011 to:

Kate Souza, SAMI Program Manager

Bellevue, WA 98007

4)  Plan out your research project and fill out the Student Checklist and Research Plan.

5)  Review your project with an adult sponsor (parent/guardian or teacher), and fill out the Checklist for Adult Sponsor Form.

6) Have your parent/guardian complete the Approval Form and the Photo Release.

7) Use the Intel ISEF Rules Wizard to determine if you need any additional forms. If you do, complete these forms and mail them to Kate Souza by the registration deadline.

If your project requires additional forms, you MUST wait for approval from the Scientific Review Committee and Institutional Review Board (SRC/IRB) BEFORE you begin your project!

Projects that do not follow these rules will be disqualified!

8) Complete your research project.  Use the  2011 CSRSEF Official Guide as a reference. Please note that project data books and Research Papers are strongly recommended, but not required.

9) Write your research abstract (250 word limit) and complete the Abstract Form. Consult the ISEF's Master the Abstract Writing Process if you need help.

10) Design your science fair display following the Intel ISEF Display and Safety Regulations. Consult the Creating an Effective Project Display guide if you need help. You are responsible for bringing everything required for your display to the fair (including extension cords, laptop power cords, etc.)

Tentative Judging/Award Schedule for 2011 CSRSEF

8:00-9:00 am: Participants should plan to arrive at Bellevue College, register, and have their projects ready for judging by 9 am.  If they haven't already, participants must submit their completed forms during registration.

9:00-10:00 am: Participants will be asked to leave the cafeteria so that the judges can preview the projects. During this time, participants, their families, and members of the community are invited to join us for a variety of science activities in our new science building (S-building).  Please visit the registration table in the cafeteria for a list of available activities.

10:00-11:00 am: Participants will return to the cafeteria to be interviewed by the judges.  Students are required to stay with their projects until 11 am.  Families, guests, and community members are welcome to view projects at this time, but are asked to not interfere with project judging.

11:00-12:00 pm: Students are free to mingle in the cafeteria.  This is the time to check out other projects and to learn more about science and engineering opportunities around the Puget Sound area.  Families, guests, and community members are welcome to view projects at this time

12:00-1:00 pm: Students will head to the L-building lobby for lunch.  There will be no on-campus food service during the event, so please be sure to bring a sack lunch or make plans to leave campus during this time

1:00-2:00 pm: The awards ceremony will be held in N201.  Participants, families, guests, and community members are encouraged to attend.

2:00-3:00 pm: Students and guests are invited back to the cafeteria for a final viewing of the projects and to tear down the fair.  Winners are asked to keep their projects displayed until 2:30 pm to allow time for photos.  Please make sure that all projects are removed from the cafeteria by 3 pm.

All times are tentative and may be changed at the director's discretion.
