The Science Division of Bellevue Community College is proud to host this page for the Internet Physics Olympiad 2000.  Here you can read about the event, try some of the practice problems, and link to our partners in this unique collaborative competition.

The Internet Physics Olympiad 2000 (IPO 2000) is a physics/math competition among teams of Russian and US high school physics students.  This pioneering WWW event differs in a fundamental respect from traditional international academic competitions.  It is not a competition between national teams.  Each team comprises equal numbers of American and Russian students collaborating electronically in real time.   The Russian sites are Novosibirsk and St. Petersburg; the US sites are San Diego and Seattle.  Thus the eight competing teams were (two each) Seattle/St. Petersburg, Seattle/Novosibirsk, San Diego/Novosibirsk and San Diego/St. Petersburg. (See our Press Release.)

This event has significance far beyond the arena of science education.  It provides a compelling example of the Web as an interactive educational tool, so it represents a window into the future of internet-mediated education.
